BSc Sociology

Who is it for?

Sociologists study patterns and regularities of action or behaviour of individuals and groups in societies. They try to explain how and why these differ over time and place. The study of sociology often overlaps with other social sciences.

Sociologists often disagree about the theories that provide insight and guidance in their attempts to explain how and why societies differ and change, and about the most appropriate methods of investigation of those theories. They do, however, share a common vocabulary and a common set of concepts.

A sociology degree offers you an intellectually-rigorous and widely-accepted preparation for many careers in public administration and social service, journalism, advertising and the media, marketing and management.

This provides an opportunity for graduates of any discipline to gain an additional undergraduate degree by following a shorter than normal programme, successfully completing nine full units rather than twelve. This can normally be achieved in a minimum of two years with the exception of the BSc Economics, BSc Economics & Finance, BSc Development & Economics and the BSc Information Systems & Management.
