between politics and economics in the international system. The role
of ideologies like mercantilism, liberalism and Marxism in explaining
the behaviour of states. The evolution of the contemporary international
political economy under the post-war Bretton Woods system and beyond.
The consequences of specific divergences between states like the North–South
divide. The importance of non-state actors and regional organisations
such as the European Union in the world economy. Issues in economic
statecraft: the examples of economic aid and economic sanctions. The
